The School Sports Partnership
Specialist Sports Colleges are at the hub of the Government's strategy to enhance young peoples opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports as well as raising the standards of teaching and learning of PE and school sport.
Sports Colleges
Specialist Sports Colleges position PE and sport at the centre of the curriculum, using it as a vehicle to develop and improve learning opportunities for all.
The Wilson Stuart School Sports Partnership
School Sport Partnerships (SSPs) are groups of schools working together to develop PE and sport opportunities for all young people. We are working towards the Goverments PSA Target - The 5 hour Offer.
The Wilson Stuart Partnership consists of:
A DOC & PDM is a full-time role usually based within a Sports College. They manage the SSP and develop strategic links with key partners in sport and the wider community.
An SSCo is based in a secondary school and concentrates on improving school sport opportunities, including out of hours school learning, intra and inter-school competition and club links, across a family of schools.
PLTs are based in primary and special schools and aim to improve the quantity and quality of PE and sport in their own schools. The Wilson Stuart School and Sports College Partnership has a total of 13,500 pupils from the North of Birmingham.
The Sports College is one of the first schools for pupils with physical disabilities to achieve Sports College status in the country with a nationally recognised reputation for excellence in sport.
The Youth Sport Trust continues to play a central role in the development and support of sports colleges. We assist schools in every aspect of the application process and work with them to realise their potential once they have successfully achieved Specialist Sports College status.
